Principal's Message

Dear St. James School Community,

It is with great humility and gratitude that I introduce myself as the principal of St. James the Apostle Catholic Elementary School. I feel truly blessed to walk this journey in Catholic Education with you.

As a faith-filled Catholic leader, my top priority is nurturing each student’s relationship with God and guiding them to live the Ontario Catholic School Graduate Expectations. I bring experience as Principal at St. Patrick and St. Ann Hamilton, along with eight years as a Special Education Resource Teacher and several years in French Immersion. I am committed to creating inclusive, faith-filled environments where students encounter Jesus daily through prayer, scripture, reflection, and one another.

Strong relationships are the heart of a thriving school community. I believe they grow through time, trust, and presence. My goal is to foster meaningful connections between students, staff, and families. At times I will lead by example, and other times I’ll step back and support quietly — especially for those who may feel unsure or lost.

I look to our Patron Saint, St. James the Apostle, whose courage, faith, and dedication to service inspire us. I will encourage our students to model his example by living bravely in faith and generously in service.

Another core goal is to support each individual in reaching their God-given potential. I am committed to providing the tools, resources, and encouragement students need to grow spiritually, academically, and emotionally.

At St. James, we are committed to Believing, Achieving, and Serving:

  • We believe Christ is at the center of our school life and culture, allowing each student to realize the fullness of their humanity.

  • We achieve through engaging instruction, evidence-based practices, and purposeful use of technology, tailored to every learner.

  • We serve by creating a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment where all students are empowered to use their gifts for the common good.

We are especially grateful to the pastoral team at Our Lady of the Assumption Parish. Together with Father Andrew, Father Richard, our staff, and our families, we will provide rich liturgical celebrations, sacramental preparation, and service opportunities — walking together in faith.

You may hear me remind students to go "piano piano" — an Italian expression meaning “slowly, slowly.” It’s a gentle way to encourage slowing down their thoughts, breathing, and movements. In doing so, students have more time to think clearly, use strategies, and make thoughtful decisions.

Please support your child by encouraging use of the student agenda each day. It’s a great tool for organizing routines, yet not for academic or behavioural concerns. I invite you to connect directly with your child’s educator via email, phone or in-person to discuss academics and behaviours. Respectful, open communication is key to our shared success.

I look forward to working alongside you. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with questions, affirmations, or ideas. Together, we will make this a wonderful year for our students.

Yours in Catholic Education,
Mrs. T. Fricano
